Yacht crew often assume their entire salary is disposable income and automatically tax-free, thinking that living on board means there’s no need to plan for the future or that getting a mortgage will be easy.

One financial misconception that a lot of yacht crew have is that there’s plenty of time later. They put off long-term savings and investments, assuming they can sort out their financial future whenever they decide to leave the industry.

But why wait until then? Why not start building your savings and investments now?

For some, it’s fear and uncertainty that holds them back. Committing to a savings plan and setting a specific financial goal can feel quite scary, and sometimes the hardest part is simply getting started.

That’s where CrewFO can help you!

CrewFO was initially set up to help superyacht crew avoid the financial mistakes we made during our time at sea. Our FCA-regulated, independent financial advisers are here to help with all aspects of your investment needs.

Our advisers understand that everyone’s situation is different. Small, regular contributions may suit you better, and we’re happy to help set up a plan that’s specific to you.

So, why not start small by entering CrewFO’s Investment Competition?

Designed to encourage smarter financial habits, the competition rewards crew members for staying on top of their finances while giving them the chance to grow an investment prize pot.

For every 25/26 tax return filed through CrewFO from April 2026 till the end of the campaign period, £10 will be added to the prize pot. The competition runs until Wednesday 30 September 2026, meaning the more tax returns submitted, the bigger the prize becomes. The pot currently sits at £2,800!

How to Enter

  • Become a CrewFO member and receive one entry into the competition.
  • File your 25/26 tax return before 30 September 2026 and receive an additional entry. (If you have already filed early you are already entered into the prize draw)
  • Receive an extra entry for every successful referral.

*To qualify for a referral entry, the referred crew member must provide the referrer’s name or email address when signing up*.

What’s the Prize?

One lucky winner will receive the final prize pot, paid directly into an ISA or investment account, helping them take a meaningful step towards their financial goals.
